Review: Sheffield City Hall

A review of the 'Here Come The Girls' concert at the Sheffield City Hall taken from the 'South Yorkshire - The Star' website:

They sang Get The Party Started – and three self-styled divas did, in style.

Lulu, Heather Small from M People and Anastacia let rip and rocked a packed venue that didn't take much persuading to get up and dance all night.

The show is named after the song that inspired all those Boots adverts and the opening graphics paid them a wry homage, with pictures of women getting ready to go out, and groups of women out for a great night out made up most of the audience.

The show was slick and glitzy - the only thing bigger than the singers' voices was the killer high heels they strutted around in - and the trio belted out hit after hit of great dance music, backed by a slick band.

There were Motown, Lady Gaga and disco medleys, Relight My Fire, One Night in Heaven, Ain't Too Proud to Beg, even Itchycoo Park…

And everyone had their party pieces, with Anastacia belting out her hits I'm Outta love and Left Outside Alone and performing a great version of the power ballad Empire State of Mind. We got fabulous versions of Valerie and Search for the Hero from Heather.

But Lulu, whose voice was in fantastic form in solos Mercy and her song To Sir With Love, was the one who brought the house down with her signature tune, Shout.

Actually, the audience's performance of the final line of the song was so loud that she ended up sitting down on stage in amazement, telling us we were crazy.

A great night, which ended with an encore of Robbie Williams' Angels and one last chance for a mass sing-along.

We really got the Christmas party started!
